Julia Fiona Roberts is the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus, and Walter Grady Roberts. She was born on October 28, 1967. She was born in Atlanta. Her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts, a farmer was the first Roberts who settled in Atlanta. Her father's passion for theatre was inherited by her. in the theater at an early age. As an undergraduate at Emory University, he performed in a variety of productions in Atlanta. In 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force. While stationed in Biloxi the Mississippi coast, he was a part of an production along with Betty Lou Bredemus. They got married in 1955. Their son, Eric Anthony, was born in the year 1956. The couple divorced in 1957. the military and Walter enrolled at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. In 1960, the couple moved to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter and Betty Lou started production in 1964 on the local Saturday morning children's show on television called Bum Bum and His Buddies that they funded by themselves. In 1964 Betty Lou and Walter founded The Actors and Writers Workshop. The program ran for about six years. They welcomed in 1965 two new children: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
